FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Why do clinical trials exist?
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that all prescription medications be evaluated for safety and efficacy before they are marketed to the public. Simply, before a new medication can be made available to patients, it must undergo extensive testing to ensure its ability to treat patients successfully. Clinical trials are part of of this testing process.
Why do people participate in clinical trials?
People participate in clinical trials for Shingles for many reasons. Many times, patients have tried all treatments that are currently available for Shingles but have found that they do not help with the symptoms and are looking for something new.
Sometimes patients participate to further medical research. They understand how important it is that new medications are available for Shingles and feel inspired to do their part.
Other times, a patient may not be able to afford the most current treatment available for their Shingles and clinical trial participation offers a research medication at no cost.
